The finance chief at Wise has announced plans to step down just days after one of his colleagues was chosen to stand in for the chief executive and founder when he takes a three-month sabbatical.

Matthew Briers said he was leaving the money transfer group after eight years in the role to focus on making a full recovery from a cycling accident.

The announcement was made less than two weeks after the founder, Kristo Kaarmann, announced he was taking temporary absence from the company and named his chief technology officer, Harsh Sinha, as his stand-in.
