Win or lose final in Prague, David Moyes deserves to stay at West Ham

Even if his side fail to take home the Europa Conference League trophy, manager’s work should be rewarded

Sometimes it feels as if there is a snobbery towards David Moyes as a manager when the 60-year-old Scot really should be celebrated. He has taken charge of 1,096 matches, and it takes ability and strength of character to survive as a manager that long.

Managers such as Moyes get well remunerated, and any debate about football has first to acknowledge greater stresses and lesser rewards in other professions, those the country relies on, such as the medical world — but it also needs appreciating that management can be the loneliest of roles, every decision in every game scrutinised. And yet Moyes keeps going, keeps preparing meticulously, keeps being obsessed with football, keeps getting stick and keeps going.
