I would not normally raise the subject of wine before breakfast (or just after tea if you read this online on Friday afternoon), but two important stories in the papers this week mean that I have no choice.

In The Times, the big news was that “women are taking over the world of wine”. Sotheby’s has “seen a surge in the number of women bidding at fine wine auctions”, while Berry Bros says the number of women joining its wine collector “cellar plan” is growing faster than the number of men.
