Tributes have been paid to Professor Donald Macleod, one of Scotland’s most prominent theologians. His family announced that he died aged 82 on Sunday at his home in Morningside, Edinburgh.

Ian Blackford, the SNP MP, paid tribute to Macleod on Twitter, writing: “It was a privilege to hear Donald preach to a congregation. May he rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers with his family.”

Macleod was ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Free Church of Scotland in 1964 and became a professor of systematic theology at Edinburgh Theological Seminary in 1978. He held the position for more than 30 years.
