You’ve heard the floral mididress is out. Now here’s the new pleated midiskirt. It’s a bit school uniform, a bit Balmoral — and nothing like the one you already have in your wardrobe.

That style is probably a knife-pleat number in a complementary jewel tone or ritzy metallic. Park it (if you want to keep in with the style set). Fashion’s new plidi will be somewhat less alluring to your average shopper — and a touch harder to pull off. Those spotted on the front row and catwalk in recent months come straight and starchy in dark, murky shades of greige. The pleats are wider, boxier, stiffer. Many have low-rise hipster waistbands designed to show off a flash of toned abs. Look, I know.
