The pieces of the Derby jigsaw are now on the board after The Foxes’ admirable but narrow victory in the Dante. The next two weeks can be spent in guessing how they are going to fit and this year looks more difficult than ever.
The Dante is the last of the big Derby trials and has given us eleven winners who went on to Epsom triumph, including Desert Crown last year, but this time its unfolding only confused the issue.
