Keith Brown, the depute leader of the SNP, has said it is “unfortunate” that different parts of the independence movement attack each other. His comment followed a spat between the party and an activist group.

All Under One Banner (AUOB), which organises pro-separation marches and rallies, has accused the SNP of being “contemptuous” after it emerged that the party’s special convention on independence would be on the same day as an AUOB event.

The conference was due to be held in March but was postponed after Nicola Sturgeon’s resignation. Over the weekend, the SNP said it would take place on June 24, the same day as an AUOB march in Stirling.
