Rail delays are often the cause of friction and mass grumbling but for one commuter stuck on a train to the West Country, a solution to the tedium was simple: a crossword puzzle involving the whole carriage.
Dan Brown was with four friends travelling home from London when their train was delayed by flooding. While everyone else silently fumed or stared gormlessly out of the window, Brown found an old newspaper crossword in his pocket and started trying to solve the clues.
When his own knowledge failed him, he sought help from those around him, including strangers. Soon the whole carriage was joining in and video of the crossword challenge posted on social media has gone viral, accumulating more than 3.7 million views on TikTok.
