In spite of the rain yesterday summer buying was in steady progress at the London shopping centres. There are many visitors this week and their purchases, of which a good percentage is piece goods, are helping to make up for losses due to the weather.

There is a steady demand for bathing dresses both from the early holiday-makers and from women who go to the swimming baths. The early show of these garments is usually of the sensible variety, and it is only later in the season when the patrons of Deauville and other “dipping” resorts begin to choose their garments that the exotic bathing gown appears.
