A senior army officer accused of fraudulently claiming private school fees has told a court that his daughter was being bullied at her state school while he was serving in Afghanistan.

Lieutenant Colonel Marcus Reedman told Southwark crown court that he had sent his eldest daughter to a private prep school in 2011 because she was being bullied “severely every day”. Her younger brother attended the same school.

The officer, who has since retired, led the Gurkhas in East Timor and in the 2003 invasion of Iraq and repeated tours of Afghanistan. He was posted to the Ministry of Defence in central London in 2015 while living at the family home near Rye, East Sussex.
