Mercedes will press ahead with an important upgrade package in Monaco next weekend after the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix denied them the opportunity to fix their struggling car in Imola.

This weekend’s race in Italy was cancelled on Wednesday after severe flooding in the region and is unlikely to be rescheduled this season, with ticket-holders offered a full refund.

Mercedes, who relinquished their constructors’ title last season and are already a distant third to Red Bull after five races this year, have struggled to get to grips with the W14 cars of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, which have performed erratically.
