Marnus Labuschagne demonstrated why he is the world’s highest-ranked red-ball batsman by scoring a second century in three matches in what will be his final first-class appearance before the world Test championship final against India and then the Ashes.

Glamorgan’s Labuschagne scored 138 and shared a partnership of 288 with acting captain Kiran Carlson, who ended the day unbeaten on 187 from 261 balls, his third hundred of the season, to keep alive their team’s hopes of emerging with something from this contest with Sussex, despite a first-innings deficit of 358.
