Robert Diament never thought he’d end up in Margate — but with neighbours like Tracey Emin and a grade II listed house, he couldn’t be happier

These days it feels as if anyone who works in the creative industries and lives in east London is moving to Margate. So popular has the coastal Kent town become that it’s essentially now Walthamstow with a beach, Leyton with a ferris wheel. Still, the gallerist Robert Diament never imagined he would be joining them. “I thought I had the dream life, living in a small, beautiful flat by Hampstead Heath and working in Shoreditch,” says Diament, 42, who is the director of Carl Freedman Gallery and the fine art print publisher Counter Editions, both in Margate.
