How leather trousers became the new jeans

Mention the words “leather trousers” and even women who are otherwise fairly adventurous in their fashion tastes tend to blanch. I once tried to press a beautiful dove grey suede pair on someone I know who is happy to wear yellow jumpers and statement jewellery, and she reacted as though I was asking her to step out in fetish gear.
