Phillip Schofield’s TV future is up in the air following ITV’s decision to allow him to save face by presenting the Soap Awards early next month.

Doubts are swirling that the This Morning presenter — who abruptly stepped down on Saturday after 21 years on the daytime show following a feud with co-presenter Holly Willoughby — will front any further ITV programmes after the event on June 3.

Announcing his departure, ITV’s managing director of media and entertainment, Kevin Lygo, confirmed that Schofield would present the awards in Manchester for a 13th successive year, along with an unnamed “brand new peak time series”. “We look forward to continuing our relationship with Phillip,” he said.
