What’s the last thing you want to do after you’ve had a facelift? Stumble out on to Harley Street to hail a cab? Cook yourself supper? Crawl to the bathroom in the middle of the night for painkillers?

If your answer is all of the above, then the new London Regenerative Institute, based at the Corinthia Hotel in central London, presents a solution.

Not quite a clinic, although it will be offering aesthetic procedures such as fillers and Botox, it is a space next to the hotel’s spa where guests can come to be educated, hand-held and healed through their cosmetic processes. The idea was born from the desire of the Corinthia and the institute’s founders to offer their clients a level of service unlike any other.

Led by an A-team of doctors, and in partnership with the private Cadogan Clinic in Chelsea, west London, the institute is set “to change everything for cosmetic surgery in London”, says Dr Steven Cohen, who is regarded as one of the top 20 facelift surgeons in the US and is making the Corinthia his new UK base.

The emphasis here will be on “regenerative” rather than cosmetic enhancements, he says. Which means what? “Integrated medical services that optimise your health and longevity,” he says in his soft Californian drawl. “So we can do your bloodwork, we can determine your genetic predispositions to certain diseases, we can look at food allergies — and then optimise your health by making recommendations based on programmes we’ve developed.”

The institute, he says, is not only for those who want surgery. “It’s also about repairing skin health and maintaining it — that’s the aesthetic part — and treating it with your own cells.” The transplanting of stem cells is a speciality of the centre and Dr Tunc Tiryaki — a pioneer in facelift surgery and Cohen’s partner in this venture — is regarded as a world expert. “You can change how you age, you just need to have all the right information,” he says of his treatments. “The aim is to keep ourselves young, internally and externally, for as long as possible.”

The consultations will be by appointment only with doctors in a monthly rotating residency alongside Bryan Mayou, a top UK surgeon and the Cadogan Clinic founder, plus a team of practitioners from the clinic. Any surgery out of their realm — for example, below the neck — they will refer to their “VIP network of surgeons and doctors” in London, says Cohen. “Some are household names, some are highly respected scientists.” They will also be setting up satellite institutes across the world, all reporting in to their London base. “It will be a rather exclusive club,” he adds.

It is certainly unlike any other clinic, offering a full treatment package with all the before and after surgery appointments and checks at the Corinthia. Not only will the hotel provide sumptuous suites for clients’ recovery, but it will arrange transport to and from the appointments. A clinical nurse will reside in an adjoining room to change the dressings or administer painkillers. The hotel’s room service menu will deliver food. And the subterranean spa will be available for post-surgery lymphatic massages and treatments in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber (“a world-first for post-surgery recovery”, which Tiryaki says can make it 50 per cent faster).

“It’s a lovely marriage for us,” says Cohen. He believes the team will set a new international standard for surgical care. And when their clients are ready to step out, looking and feeling fresher, the hotel even has a cocktail bar in which they can test out their new look. Harley Street definitely doesn’t have that.
