The best luxury tights

Snazzy prints, sheer elegance and a no-snag guarantee — why it pays to invest in the right hosiery

The Times

Some claim to be ladder resistant, others are made of cashmere and silk. You can get them patterned with designer logos or stick to stealthy, classic black. Luxury tights promise much, but are they really better than those you buy in multipacks on the high street? A baggy gusset is a baggy gusset, after all — no less annoying when it has cost you three figures.

But some tights are simply better. They feel good going on, they last longer and they don’t snag, bobble or bag. So with spring upon us — that in-betweeny tights season — it’s time to ditch the woolly knit stockings and go sheer. These are the best light luxury tights to invest in now.

Classic super-sheer tights

£99, uk.sheertex.com
Sheertex claims to have designed the most resilient sheer tights in the world, and it might be right. They were one of Time magazine’s best inventions of 2018, and are made of polymers traditionally used for ballistics and climbing equipment. Each pair comes with a 90-day no-rip, snag or ladder guarantee.

Pure Matt 20 denier

£18, falke.com
Falke’s no-fuss, super-sheer matt tights are practically transparent and give legs a smooth finish.

Fatal 15

£35, wolfordshop.co.uk
This seamless creation from Wolford wears like a second skin and its wide waistband means it can be worn on the hips or waist (good news after a big lunch).

The Bold

£32, hedoine.com
A new name on the hosiery block: Hedoine’s tights are seamless, ladder resistant, come with reinforced toes and are made sustainably.

Cassandre tights

£165, ysl.com
What’s that you say? Tights with a diamante YSL tattoo on the ankle? Adding to basket (before everyone else does).

GG pattern tights

£250, gucci.com
Gucci’s logo-branded tights have a “handwash only” label and are made of polyamide, a material chosen for its resilience (no promises as to whether that will help with the ladder anxiety).

Monogram-flocked mesh tights

£193, marineserre.com
Beyoncé has worn Marine Serre; so have Adele and Dua Lipa. The French brand’s velvet-flocked moon-print sheer tights, made of recycled nylon mesh, are a shortcut to cool.
