Staff at the equalities watchdog have been accused of orchestrating a campaign against its chairwoman after she backed legal reforms guarding the rights of biological women, it was claimed last night.

They are said to have a dossier of more than 40 complaints from a dozen present and former colleagues at the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) about Baroness Falkner of Margravine.

Relations between staff and Falkner are understood to have become fractious after she backed an overhaul of the 2010 Equality Act to protect the rights of biological women in single-sex spaces, such as hospital wards and lavatories. Whistleblowers said she was the victim of a witch-hunt driven by ideology.
