Tottenham Hotspur fans wondering whether Arne Slot can lead a rebuild only need to look back to last summer.

When Feyenoord reached the Europa Conference League final last season there was a lot of excitement in Rotterdam, as the team assembled by Slot had made huge strides. With a small budget, they had beaten teams such as Union Berlin, Slavia Prague and Marseille.

Defeat in the final by José Mourinho’s Roma heralded an exodus of players who had been crucial to the rise of the team. Feyenoord’s run in Europe meant players were in demand and seven of the starting XI left, with the Premier League the destination for the likes of Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth), Luis Sinisterra (Leeds United) and Tyrell Malacia (Manchester United).
