Amalfi

The walk to Amalfi is mostly downhill, descending about 700m from Bomerano down to the coast. Sections of this walk include steps (approximately 2,000 in total), but you can go at your own pace and there will be ample opportunities to rest.
Upon arrival in Amalfi, you’ll see the Duomo, or cathedral, whose brightly coloured tiles dominate the skyline. With the afternoon free to roam, you could explore the inside of the Duomo and its stunning regional architecture. Explore at your leisure for the rest of the day, perhaps taking a swim or enjoying some gelato before transferring back to Bomerano.

Day 4
Bay of Naples and visit Pompeii

Bay of Naples and visit Pompeii

Pompeii

This morning you’ll be driven to the Bay of Naples, an area that lies between iconic Naples and Sorrento, a small town famous for its lemon groves. But the main attraction for today is Pompeii. A thriving port town until it was destroyed by a catastrophic volcanic eruption over two days in 79AD, Pompeii was lost for 1700 years, buried under ash and pumice. Its perfectly preserved remains are now a Unesco World Heritage site and allow an incredible insight into a typical Roman city. Bathhouses, bakeries and even people’s homes still stand, even with detailed frescoes still intact. You’re free to explore this ancient site and can opt for a tour with a local guide.

This afternoon a bus will take you up to the slopes of Mount Vesuvius to view its volcanic crater. You can choose to take a guided walk around the caldera with an expert volcanologist, if conditions permit.

Day 5
Ravello to Amalfi

Ravello to Amalfi

Amalfi

Today you’ll begin in Ravello, a town loved by artists and intellectuals for its seclusion and inspirational beauty. Explore this marvellous town’s intricately landscaped gardens, or see Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo before beginning the
walk to Amalfi.
The downhill route through the forests of the Valle delle Ferriere includes sections of numerous steps. After an initial descent, you’ll stop off in Pontone, before venturing into the forest led by wooden bridges, shady paths, mossy waterfalls and a carpet of wild flowers. As you follow the stream down towards Amalfi, you cross through lemon groves and pass the remnants of former paper factories and medieval ironworks.

Day 6
Free day

Free day

Bomerano
You have today to spend as you wish. If you’d like to rest after days of walking, you could relax in the hotel and its pool, or head to the seafront or a quintessentially Italian café. Alternatively, you could transfer to a number of fascinating destinations in the area, including Herculaneum. This town was destroyed in the same eruption of Mount Vesuvius that hit Pompeii, but is better preserved because it was buried in mud rather than ash. Also available is a short ferry ride to chic Capri to explore its lemon groves and its vibrant town.

Accommodation - Hotel Due Torri

Meals included - Breakfast

Day 7
Walk of the Gods

Walk of the Gods

Positano

Today you’ll head out of Bomerano to join the ‘Sentiero degli Dei’, or ‘Path of the Gods’, so-called due to the heavenly views across ragged cliffs dotted with quaint villages and a panoramic sea view across the Mediterranean. Following undulating hills that track the coastline and clad with the season’s flowers, you’ll pass by shepherds’ huts and ancient stone houses carved into limestone before beginning the stepped descent into Positano. This colourful town sits almost vertically on a rock face within a sheltered bay. Wander through the wisteria-lined alleyways, past designer boutiques or dip your toes in the crystal waters on the beachfront, before transferring by boat and bus back to Bomerano in the afternoon. Before dinner you’ll have the chance to sample delicious smoked mozzarella and see how it’s made.
