Aberdeen could lose its reputation as a centre for the energy sector because investment in the transition to net zero is being hampered by government policy as confidence in the North Sea plunges, a report published today has warned.

The research said high taxes, a hostile political environment for oil and gas and a lack of pace in new technology projects were among the key concerns of industry.

Only about 7 per cent of respondents felt the SNP had the right policies for the energy transition, while the Conservatives scored highest, at 19 per cent, with no other party doing better than 3 per cent.

There were 65 per cent who felt no parties were following the correct path.

Respondents were also asked about which
